Angel BID is funding more bonded gravel tree pits to make the area more attractive and improve the health of the Angel’s trees.
You may have already seen them in Upper Street but we’re now spreading the initiative to include all the trees in the BID area, except those whose roots are too high or too large. Work will start shortly in Penton and White Lion Streets and continue in stages throughout BID area over the course of the year. The benefits of bonded gravel tree pits are that the surfaces are easy to clean or jet-wash without harming the roots – meaning unsightly dog fouling and cigarette ends can just be washed away. The resin is porous and allows water and air through.
“Creating the tree pits makes the environment cleaner and more attractive for visitors and residents in our BID area, and also means we can prolong the life of the trees whose roots do get damaged by people continually throwing rubbish on them,” says Angel BID Director Christine Lovett.
