Islington Council launches a food waste recycling trial for businesses

Islington Council has now launched a food waste collection pilot for all businesses in the borough which generate food waste; including local offices, shops, restaurants and cafes.

The trial, which will run for six months, will help us develop convenient and cost effective services to make it easier for businesses in Islington to recycle. Islington Council will provide participating businesses with biodegradable bags, kitchen caddies and wheeled bins.

The commercial food waste trial will help us find the best ways of diverting food waste from landfill for a range of different businesses. Islington Council will work with local businesses to develop convenient collection services for their food waste. This pilot scheme will be funded by the London Development Agency.
