Angel BID is supporting a crackdown on sex cards left in phone boxes as Islington’s street environment wardens step up their patrols in the area.
Wardens are removing up to 100 sex cards a day which advertise prostitutes and sexual services, and are considered threatening and unsightly by local businesses, residents and visitors to the Angel.
“The cards are offensive and inappropriate for everyone, from young people to tourists, who are faced with them when needing to make a call – and so we fully support this initiative,” says Angel BID Director Christine Lovett. “We are working hard to make the Angel a safer and more attractive place to live work and visit, and totally welcome the wardens’ work and reassuring presence here.”
Islington Council’s team of local street environment wardens are working closely with Angel BID to make our area safer, cleaner and brighter. Offering high visibility reassurance, they promote civic pride and encourage better behaviour around low-level anti-social activities which spoil the area such as dropping litter, dog-fouling,
fly-posting. They have recently been working with Angel BID on a campaign to remove obstructive advertising boards parked in the middle of the pavement causing dangerous hazards for pedestrians.
