Angel Police Team advice to shops to reduce crime
• posting a security guard at the door is a deterrent
• don’t display your most expensive stock at the front of the shop
• make sure your CCTV is the best quality you can afford so you can offer clear, sharp images to help with criminal convictions if required
• call our Crime Prevention Officers to arrange a visit your premises and security advice on 020 7421 0227

Angel Police Team dedicated to the BID area
The BID provides a team of seven officers dedicated to businesses in the Angel BID area, providing a highly visible and effective deterrent for anti-social behaviour as well a valuable link between the police and the local business community. They can be contacted urgently by all BID businesses on an exclusive mobile phone hotline carried at all times – and will respond as quickly as possible (contact us if you haven’t received it).

The team operates via intelligence-led pro-active policing – getting to know all the BID businesses, finding out their concerns, familiarising themselves with the BID area, and sharing intelligence about known and regular criminals. They also work undercover in local shops, bars and restaurants focusing on anti-social behaviour, vandalism, shoplifting, theft, mugging, assault, car crime and burglary.

Businesses can email the Angel Police Team confidentially with any concerns at angeltowncentreteam@met.police.uk

Campaigning for more CCTV

As part of the BID’s strategic approach to security at the Angel we have successfully campaigned for more CCTV cameras in the area. We now have a total of 12 cameras live locally, operated by the police and TfL and monitored by a central hub relayed to the police. We are also working on safety with Islington Council and co-ordinating the CCTV van to back up our strategic work.

Alcohol Task Force making the streets safer at night
We are working with Islington’s Alcohol Task Force for extra policing around licensed premises to make the streets safer.  Funded by the police and supported by Islington Council and Angel BID, the task force tackles anti-social and violent effects of our night-time economy.
